What's in the Pack for Spartan Beast Bintan 2016?
Race no. 6 for me. 66% towards the triple Trifecta. And here's the race pack for the last race held by the Singapore organizers in 2016. As mentioned previously, race packs like this are quite unique to Singapore. Neither the Malaysia race nor the Australia ones gave me race packs. But then again, neither of those two cost an arm and a leg for entry. The Bintan Beast cost me S$159. The Putrajaya Beast was RM249 (S$86), and amazingly, even when I factored in my flight, hotel stay, and expenses, still cost less than the Bintan entry fee. The Bright Trifecta weekend cost me shy of AUD$200 (S$200) for three races. All three are VIP prices.
While the race is being held in Bintan, the organizers have taken steps to lower the transportation cost for participates, with discounted ferry tickets and local bus ferries. But still, I'm hoping they will hold a full Beast in Singapore, perhaps partner up with the Singapore Armed Forces and run a race in the military training grounds. On the other hand, perhaps MediaCorp can learn a lesson or two from Australia, and hold Spartan Stadium races in the Singapore Sports Hub. Apparently they were hoping to hold one at Yio Chu Kang Stadium, but entry numbers bombed and they cancelled the event, but kept the Spartan junior race. Listen up MediaCorp, it's either the Sports Hub or don't bother!
MediaCorp has been going all out to promote the race, with advertisement on the radio and television, most likely because participation number suffered. They scheduled the race for the 19th of November, right smack in the middle of the local Universities' exam period.
Compared to the last pack, they 'bulked' it up with a towel, a bottle of newater and a cup of preserved fruits. The included training tee comes with a green Spartan logo this time, denoting that you are training/racing for the Beast this time. It also came with 3 vouchers, which I am honestly unlikely to use.
Looking forward to a great race day at Bintan on 19th November! See you there!
